Weekend Recaps .
I spent the last two weekends with my family. My father has always been big on family, so of course when my cousins from Jamaica came to visit my father in NY; it was expected for my sister and I to make our way “HOME.” I always love spending time with my family! My father is the most sarcastic man on this planet. In addition to being sarcastic, he’s BRUTALLY honest. He’s the guy that if he hasn’t seen you in 20 years and you gained some weight, the first thing to come out of his mouth is “You gained a lot of weight.” He’ll say it with a straight face without blinking!
Anyway, I became a Vegan (and recently bumped it up to a Pescetarian) 10 months ago and since then my father swears up and down I have some kind of eating disorder. What’s wrong with you? I hope you’re not anorexic! I will admit I went from 150 to 137. However, the first drop in weight came because of the Juice Detox regimen I was on for 11 days. I dropped 13 lbs in 11 days and said “Hell NAW,” time to quit. The second “drop” in weight was a direct effect from two months of fitness boot camp! I started at 144 and ended at 137. While I didn’t loose much weight after two months of fitness boot camp, I did lose two inches and gained a whole lot of lean muscle.
I’ve tried to explain to my father on multiple occasions (between stuffing some kind of vegan treat in my mouth) my decision to become a vegan was for medical reasons and I wasn’t trying to starve myself. He got excited when I told him I decided to introduce fish back into my diet. I guess me eating fish will shut him up for a couple of months.
I try not to punish the meat-eating people who come to visit especially my niece. Lord knows that girl can eat meat like a horse. She was with me the last two weekends. Two weeks ago, I made some jerk salmon on the grill. Oh, she was so excited about the salmon, and her grandpa made her some curry goat, which made her smile! This past weekend I surprised her by cooking some brown stew chicken, rice and peas, and other vittles. Of course, I couldn’t taste most of the stuff I was cooking, so my niece was my little taster. “Auntie, this is so good, I’m sorry you can’t eat any of the food, thank you though.” I looked at her and rolled my eyes, but it was still good to hear that I still had it!
While I’m not sure how long I’m remain Pescetarian, I’m sure happy with the results of me changing my diet.
Could and would you see yourself becoming either a Vegan or Pescetarian?

I doubt I could keep away from meat for very long. We had this agreement with a friend once, that we wouldn’t eat any red meat for a month. Basically, she was trying to loose weight after the birth of her little girl. So anyways, we agreed that we would have fresh fruits and veggies and some cabs while incorporating some exercise.
:)) That never happened. By the second week of that routine, I was going through the biggest crave period in my life! I never knew I was so dependent on meat. To cut a long story short, I ended up eating a beef burger and sausage one day early in the morning! It was that bad. I just couldn’t spend another minute without red meat, and when I finally got down to it, I made sure I got back every minute I’d lost of eating some =))

lol, it wasn’t diffidcult giving up read meat. The bird???? now that was a different story. I gave up meat for medical reasons, so it was a little different for me. Pain or Pleasure? Well after a while the pleasure didn’t feel as good, the pain took over my body! It’s been an experience though, and my body loves me for it! and I will NEVER EVER give up carbs…well some carbs I don’t eat, for the most part, I eat CARBS. LOVE CARBS…CARBS I WOULD NEVER GIVE UP!

I’ve gone thru periods where I’ve slowed down on eating meat, and I’m a lot better about eating more veggies and fruit has always been a favorite of mine, but I don’t think I could ever completely give up meat, especially during the summer months. Nothings better than a hot link fresh off the grill!!
As for the Pescetarian thing, no I’m Baptist….lol!! No, I’ve never really explored that, but I’m a check it out though.
I would like to know more about your juice detox regimen

Oh, this summer was painful as a Vegan. Everywhere I went, I had to bring my own food. Becoming a Vegan opened my eyes to a whole new world of cuisine, which isn’t bad at all. I think most people should realize that becoming a Vegan isn’t the end of the world and there are a lot of alternative foods you can eat and YES you do get enough protein in your diet. Let me quiet now before I turn this into a health class on Vegans!
Well my juice detox regimen consisted of all organic fruits, veges, my blender and a fabulous juicer! No bottled juice because all if not most are pasteurized (which strips some of the nutrients) and some add sugar. Sugar is the devil and will drive you to eat your fingers during the juice detox. Every morning I would make enough smoothies with ice and the fruit of the day to last me for the rest of the day. You should always try to drink the juice fresh! If you can’t drink it right away, put the juice in an air tight bottle.
I started with three 20 OZ bottles and by the time I got to day 11 I was down to one. The first two days were the most difficult, after that you’re body adjusts to the new “diet.” It was FABULOUS for me. I had lots of energy and my body felt good! Hit me offline if you need more info.

First, do not be afraid. I’m currently 5″ 7.5″ and weigh 137lbs. Before becoming a vegan I would fluctuate between 137 and 144. The difference? I have more lean muscle than fat as a result of two months of fitness boot camp. And YES! I went through a five day a week fitness boot camp for TWO MONTHS while I was a Vegan and have muscles to show! I lost two inches of FAT from my body. As a matter a fact, please see my BOOT CAMP ABS! This was taken a week after I completed the FIRST boot camp

Before becoming a Vegan one most prepare before hand. Get a Vegan or Vegetarian Multi-Vitamin, plan your meals to ensure you’re getting enough fats (good stuff), carbs, and proteins! I’ll shoot you some of the website sites I visited before becoming a Vegan. Trust me, you can maintain what you already have and gain “weight” on a Vegan or Vegetarian diet.
